KOMPAS.com - Para insinyur di Amerika tak mau tinggal diam begitu superkomputer dari Negeri Paman Sam itu dikalahkan China. Dua superkomputer yang tengah dibangun di Amerika saat ini diklaim bakal menghasilkan kinerja jauh di atas kemampuan superkomputer tercepat di dunia buatan China saat ini.
Dua superkomputer yang tengah dirancang para insinyur di Amerika didesain mampu melakukan 20 petaflop (20 triliun kalkulasi/perhitungan per detik). Kecepatannya bakal jauh di atas Tianhe-1, nama superkomputer China yang nangkring di daftar teratas 500 komputer tercepat saat ini dengan kinerja hingga 2,57 petaflop.
Salah satu superkomputer dibangun di Oak Ridge National Laboratory, lokasi yang sama dengan superkomputer Jaguar yang menempati peringkat dua dunia saat ini. Superkomputer kedua dibangun di Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory oleh IBM. Namun, kedua sistem diperkirakan baru selesai pada 2012.
Dalam daftar Top 500 yang baru saja dirilis, China tidak hanya mencatat superkomputer tercepat tapi juga memasukkan 42 superkomputer di dalamnya melampaui negara maju seperti Jepang, Jerman, dan Inggris. Amerika masih mendominasi dengan 275 dari 500 superkomputer dalam daftar tersebut.
Prosesor Intel masih menjadi pilihan prosesor sebagian besar superkomputer. Dari 500, 398 menggunakan rangkaian prosesor Intel. Sementara AMD hanya digunakan 57 superkomputer. Sebagian besar termasuk buatan China pun masih menggunkan chip buatan perusahaan Amerika termasuk dukungan GPU seperti buatan Nvidia.

American Design Two 20 petaflop supercomputer
KOMPAS.com - The engineers in America do not want to stay silent supercomputers from Uncle Sam's country defeated China. Two supercomputers are being built in America today claimed would result in performance far above the ability of the world's fastest supercomputer made in China today.
